Firefox Mobile Browser (Fennec) Beta Available For Nokia N810 and Desktops

Firefox Web Browser For Mobile Devices - FennecMozilla has announced the beta release of Firefox Mobile Browser, code named Fennec. Amongst the highlights of this release is the inclusion of  TraceMonkey, Mozilla’s new JavaScript engine, which is said to greatly improve browser performance.

The goals for Firefox Mobile are:

  • provide Mozilla’s standards-based open-source browser engine, optimized for mobile, that can be embedded by device manufacturers and others;
  • a full-featured mobile browser including support for XUL-based add-ons, delivering on Firefox’s key principles of ease-of-use, security and accessibility;
  • grow the Mozilla community in the mobile space;
  • provide tools and documentation to help developers develop, debug and deploy web applications;
  • do all of this work in the shared Mozilla source repositories so all platforms, desktop and mobile, benefit each other

The beta release is available for the OS2008 (“Maemo”) software platforms that runs on the Nokia N810 Internet Tablets. However you can try out Fennec, provide feedback, write add-ons, and get involved by installing a version of Fennec for your desktop WindowsMac OS X or Linux
