Open Source for Tomorrow Program

Unique program encourages Open Source leaders of tomorrow to
continue to make contributions to the ASF and Open Source community
while attending school

WALNUT CREEK, CA ? June 7, 2005 ? Covalent Technologies?, the
most trusted source for complete enterprise open source solutions,
today announced it is sponsoring the Open Source for Tomorrow Program
in conjunction with the Apache Software Foundation (ASF), the dominant
community for useable Open Source. This unique program provides
financial assistance to student members of the ASF and encouragement to
continue to make contributions to the ASF and Open Source communities
while working towards a Bachelors, Masters or PhD degree.

The first beneficiary of the Open Source for Tomorrow Program
will be Mr. Yoav Shapira to be applied towards a Masters of Science
degree at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Mr. Shapira was recently
recognized and invited to join the long list of distinguished ASF
members for his significant contributions to the Apache Tomcat project.
Mr. Shapira received a Bachelor of Science degree and his first Masters
of Science degree in Computer Science Engineering from Boston
University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He currently consults for a
variety of companies.

The next recipient selected by the ASF will be announced in October or
November, concurrent with ApacheCon U.S. 2005, the official conference
of the Apache Software Foundation. Thereafter, recipients will be
selected by the ASF and sponsored by Covalent Technologies on an annual
basis. In order to qualify, scholarship recipients must have
demonstrated significant contributions to the ASF and Open Source
communities in general, and be actively enrolled in school.

?Covalent Technologies is proud to sponsor this worthy program, and to
honor such a young and talented ASF member as Yoav Shapira,? noted Mark
Brewer, CEO of Covalent Technologies. ?As a loyal and long-standing
corporate contributor of the ASF, we see it as our responsibility to
further perpetuate the ASF and Open Source in general, by providing
encouragement and financial
assistance to the future leaders of this burgeoning and important Open Source movement.?

?We have known Yoav, his high caliber of work, and his ASF
contributions for many years now,? commented Greg Stein, Chairman of
the ASF. ?Yoav is an excellent choice among many fine candidates. We
are delighted and grateful that Covalent Technologies, a long-time
friend and supporter of the ASF, is sponsoring this important program.?
